Hula Kiʻi with Kaponoai Molitau - Punahou

Description: 

In 2017, Hula Preservation Society partnered with nā Kumu Kiʻi Kaponoʻai Molitau, Auliʻi Mitchell, and Mauli Ola Cook to carry out a multi-year, multi-island, educational project to present Hula Kiʻi in performance and build capacity in the hula community.

This clip features the kāne of Nā Hanona Kūlike ʻO Piʻilani under Kumu Hula Kaponoʻai Molitau who trained in Hula Kiʻi under his hānai father, Kumu Hula John Keola Lake.

Kumu Kaponoʻai's ki'i head is made from a dried coconut with a hole drilled in the back to place your fingers.
