Hula Kiʻi for King at the Kamehameha Statue


This special presentation of Hula Kiʻi took place in Kapaʻau, Kohala, Hawaiʻi Island, on the 200th anniversary of the passing of Kamehameha the Great in 1819.

The haumana hailed from three Kohala halau, under the respective directions of Hope Keawe, Kauʻi Nakamura, and Leia Lawrence.

The Hula Kiʻi Kumu involved in this project of Hula Preservation Society were Auliʻi Mitchell, Kaponoʻai Molitau, Mauliola Cook, and Maile Loo.

This was a project of Hula Preservation Society supported in part by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Friends of Hawaii Charities, and Hawaii Tourism Authority.
